LGBTQ & TRANSITION THERAPY

BE WHO YOU ARE

I am an LGBTQ-affirmative therapist. This means that I believe that everyone has a basic right to express sexuality and live in the gender identity that feels the most natural to them. I believe in equality, respect, and social justice for all. Every individual deserves support and caring simply because they are human and I work hard to provide a non-judgmental space for each of my clients. My goal for you is to live a life of truth and wholeness.

As a social worker, I am committed to ensuring that all people can achieve a sense of dignity and well-being. I am acutely aware of the social injustices that the LGBTQ community suffers and the pain and trauma that can ensue within the context of our society, families, schools, spiritual communities, the workplace, and even in our physician or therapists’ office. I am committed to providing a safe place for you to process through some of the unique challenges that come with being part of the LGBTQ community while maintaining a safe and supportive space and beholding you with understanding and compassion.

I have been working with the LGBTQ community for over 20 years. Recognizing the need to provide safety and support for LGBTQ kids,  I started  the first LGBTQ support group in a major high school in Texas.  I understand the challenges of growing up LGBTQ and have years of experience helping LGBTQ individuals with:
  • the coming out process
  • dealing with internalized homophobia
  • overcoming shame
  • suppression of sexual identity
  • issues of discrimination
  • relational and family issues
  • addiction, depression and anxiety
  • self-esteem issues.

For the transgender, gender non-conforming, and gender questioning client, I do not see you as suffering from any illness or being wrong in any way. I understand that gender dysphoria is acutely painful and stressful. If one decides to begin the transition process, I have the experience and the authority needed to write letters in support of hormone therapy and/or gender conforming surgeries.  You have the right to be who you are and I am here to support you in your journey.
